The State Board of Education has picked 18 high school students from around Illinois to serve on its advisory board. Among those picked, Cameron Jodlowski, a seniorat Olympia High School, Danielle Segerstrom a junior at LeRoy High School, and Morgan Rich, a sophomore at Dee-Mack High School in Mackinaw. The students get a close up view of education policy and offer insight and perspective to board members. The council was established in 1975. All sophomores, juniors, and seniors in Illinois public high schools are eligible to apply for the one-year spots. The students were picked through a competitive review process and are selected for having strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work well in groups and think creatively. Their terms last through 2014. The teens convened their first meeting at the state board's monthly meeting being held in Normal this week.
