Illinois Supreme Court justices have started their first term outside their Springfield base in nearly 120 years. The seven justices started hearing arguments today in the Michael Bilandic Building in downtown Chicago. Their permanent building in Springfield is undergoing renovations. There are a few differences between the venues. The Chicago courtroom is modern while there is ornamentation in the 105-year-old courthouse in the state capital. The first attorney to deliver arguments Tuesday in a check-forgery case, Benjamin Wolowski, said he only had to walk across the street from his office rather than take a train to Springfield. As court convened, Chief Justice Thomas Kilbride assured spectators and fellow panelists they shouldn't detect any change in legal procedures while in Chicago. He told them ``it's business as usual.''
