A teacher at Normal West High School is a finalist for Illinois Teacher of the Year. John Bierbaum teaches U.S. History, World History, and Psychology at Normal West. He is among 11finalists statewide selected from about 200 nominations. State Board of Education Chairman Gery Chico says the finalists consistently create new strategies that keep students engaged and excited about learning and achieving. Each nomination is individually reviewed and scored three times. The statewide award will be made October 19th at the "Those Who Excel" Banquet held this year at the Marriot Hotel in Normal. The Illinois Teacher of the Year also enters a review for the National Teacher of the Year award.
