The Illinois National Guard says about 20 soldiers from a specialized unit are getting ready to deploy to Afghanistan, where they'll work alongside members of the Polish military. The members of the Bilateral Embedded Staff Team will spend two months training in New Jersey and Poland before heading to Afghanistan for six months. The Guard calls the embedded mission "unique," and says it's part of a 20-year-long partnership with Poland's military. The soldiers on the mission are from across Illinois. They'll get a send off during a ceremonty September 10th in Bloomington.
