Extra police officers will be on hand when ISU plays its first home football game at the renovated Hancock Stadium as part of an effort to crack down on underage drinking. Illinois State will play Abilene Christian during its home opener on Sept. 21. As many as 15,000 people are expected to tailgate before the kickoff. McLean County officials are setting up a remote booking area at the Normal police department to handle what could be an influx of people facing minor charges. Meanwhile, more serious offenders will be taken to jail. The booking area will be staffed by county correctional officers. ISU Police Chief Aaron Woodruff says law enforcement officials will decide whether to continue the increased police presence after the first game.
