A Bloomington resident tells police a fist sized bolt fell through the roof of a mobile home in the Hilltop park and landed on a sofa chair. Police spokeswoman Sarah Mayer says the incident was reported August 19th.
"The witness then reported that when they touched the bolt, it was actually warm to the touch."
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Tony Molinaro says no pilots in the area reported troubles or missing pieces of their planes. He says there is no parts number on the six inch bolt and the FAA does not think it came from an aircraft. Molinaro says it is not unusual for a mower, wood chipper, or recycling operation to kick up a bolt on the ground and send it flying, even to great heights. The heat of the metal and the twisted nature of the object may support that origin.
