The McLean County Board gave the green light to fund the Health Department's new counseling program, but it was not without opposition. Board Member Chuck Erickson says in-person counseling, which will help uninsured residents get insurance, forces the county to accept national healthcare policy. He says federal officials use grant money to influence local legislators.
"Ronald Reagan once said that the closest thing to eternal life on earth is a government program," he says. "I will not be a vote to put Obamacare on the path to eternal life."
Erickson was the only board member to reject the grant. His opponents said the decision to approve funding shows support for the Health Department, not Obamacare.
