The Town of Normal has appointed its Uptown Development Director to take over the Public Works department. Wayne Aldrich will replace current Public Works Director Robin Weaver, who plans to retire at the end of the year. Aldrich says he is grateful for the appointment and believes his past experience will be an asset.
"It's a position that I think I can perform based on my experience in engineering and also being around the public works or maintenance side of public projects basically all my career," he says.
Aldrich will still oversee some projects in Uptown that go hand-in-hand with public works. But, he believes the development needs of the area are different than they used to be.
"It's just changed I guess from a building-intense project to kind of a just developing it and keeping it active retail and an active shopping district and making sure that things are taken care of here," he says.
Aldrich says he wants to use the position to implement new maintenance technology and move forward with a bike plan for the community.
