Workers at the Bridgestone tire plant in Normal are getting more vacation time, wage hikes, and new employees will also enjoy benefits under a new contract. The pact is the first in seven years, and runs until through 2017. Workers expanded vacation time makes up for the 12-hour shifts they often work. Previously, vacation days only paid employees for an 8 hour day. Workers will also get cost of living pay hikes, starting with a 50-cent increase in the first year, with 25-cent increases in future years. 85 percent of the 340 members of United Steel Workers local 787 voted to approve the contract.
