Town of Normal officials could shift their plans for development of the northern section of the uptown area. Since renovation plans were first revealed more than a decade ago, two office/retail buildings along Constitution Avenue north of the circle roundabout were expected to be developed. Mayor of Normal Chris Koos says that scenario was drawn up during better economic times.
"It's been 12, 13 years since we've done that plan and we're going to take another look at those and think about, is our original assumption still the right assumption or do we do something different."
Koos says work on the new Hyatt Hotel and adjoining apartment complex in what is commonly referred to as the uptown hole was held up while developers sought more favorable financing. Work was expected to begin in July. Koos says better rates have been secured and detailed construction should be underway later this month or early next.
