Illinois State University trustees have approved $1.2 million to buy and install a new scoreboard at the school's Hancock Stadium. The money approved also will pay for an auxiliary scoreboard, sound system and marquee message center at the stadium. The facility is undergoing a $26 million renovation. School officials have said the renovation will be mostly finished in time for the Redbirds' home opener in late September. The latest funding comes from athletic facility reserves and private contributions to the Normal school. Earlier this month the school asked the city of Normal for $500,000 to help pay for the renovations. The school's football team has played at the stadium since 1961. The renovation is expanding seating at the stadium from 9,500 to about 13,000 seats.
