The House Ethics Committee says it is extending an investigation of Rep. Peter Roskam of Illinois. The committee says it received a report from the Office of Congressional Ethics, an independent investigative body, and has decided to extend its investigation of Roskam. The committee says it will announce its course of action on Roskam in September and says extending an investigation does not indicate that a violation has occurred. The OCE questions whether a $24,000 trip the Wheaton Republican took with his family to Taiwan was permissable since it was paid for by the Government of Taiwan. Under some circumstances it might be ok for Taiwan to pay for Congressional travel, but not for Roskam's family.
