Police in Peoria are confirming that a body found inside the home of longtime city councilman Gary Sandberg is that of Sandberg. Police arrived on the scene of the South Peoria residence earlier this afternoon. Photos on social media show police tape surrounding the residence with police present. The 64-year old Sandberg was first elected to the Peoria City Council in 1989 and has been an at-large councilman since 1997. He ran for a term in the first district earlier this year, only to be defeated by newcomer Denise Moore. Sandberg's at-large term was set to expire in two years. The eccentric architect was known to occasionally bring a cockatoo to council meetings. More information will be released as it becomes available.
