The Central Illinois Regional Airport will be able to upgrade its ramp area with a $1.89 million grant from the federal government. Airport Deputy Director Fran Strebing says the size of jets taking off and landing at the Bloomington facilty are getting bigger and improvements are necessary.
"We're seeing that on the commercial side with the Airbuses. We're seeing larger corporate aircraft, and so when aircraft is parking we need a lot of room. We need a lot of maneuver area and this money will be used to expand a ramp area for us."
Strebing says more details about the improvements will be released later this summer. The grant was announced by U-S Senator Dick Durbin's office.
