Chicago's City Council could toughen its ban on so-called assault weapons this week. Cities across Illinois have 10 days from last Tuesday to outlaw certain guns from their city limits under the state's new concealed carry law. Illinois Governor Pat Quinn says he wishes they had more time:
"They had a very short timeframe, only 10 days now under the law. And a lot of folks are away in the summer. I felt that was way too short, but I'm glad Chicago's acting."
Mayor Rahm Emanuel's proposal would expand the types of guns and military-style features that would be banned in the city. Some suburban cities have also recently approved added gun regulations - including Highland Park, Skokie, and North Chicago.
