A recent analysis shows millions of alcoholics and drug addicts who need treatment, but lack insurance to pay for it, could flood behavioral treatment facilities. That includes the Bloomington-based Chestnut system. Alan Sender is C-F-O for the provider. He says a lot depends on the insurance companies that contract with Illinois to administer an expanded Medicaid to pay for treatment:
"If and when the general assembly approves the Medicaid Expansion, which is right now being debated in Springfield, but then the insurance companies will be managing those individuals, and they try to contain costs."
Sender says the insurance companies do that by reducing the services they approve, and managing any they DO approve.
