Champaign police say they are investigating the death of a woman in an apartment fire as a homicide and have made an arrest. Police say the woman appeared to have suffered stab wounds. She was found dead Friday morning following the fire. Officers have not yet released her name but say she didn't live in the second-floor apartment. An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday. Police say a 31-year-old Champaign man is in custody but he has not been charged with a crime. Champaign fire investigator John Koler said firefighters had the fire in the efficiency apartment out within minutes of getting the 6:10 a.m. call. Residents of all but two of the apartments in the small complex were allowed to return home within an hour.
