Protected Alligator seized from Bloomington basement Illinois Conservation Police have seized a nearly three and a half foot american alligator from a Bloomington home. The 41 inch reptile was held in a basement enclosure in the 12-hundred block of North Mason street. 44-year old Danny Hubbs has been accused of having a protected species without a permit. That's a misdemeanor charge. The alligator will be screened to see if it is healthy enough to transfer to a licensed facility. Conservation police say this type of animal does not belong in private hands where it puts its owner or others at risk. State officials are thanking McLean County animal control and Bloomington police for help on the case.
