A preliminary investigation into human bones found along the Mackinaw River near Gridley show they're likely very old bones from a number of individuals. The Sheriff and Coroner's offices collected several bone fragments along river banks yesterday. Some of the bones had plant roots growing through the marrow, and are fragile with no obvious signs of traumatic injury. An expert from the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency will look at the bones later today.
