The city of Bloomington is getting a new interim police chief. Retired Champaign chief R. T. Finney will take over the department beginning Monday. He'll replace current interim chief Clay Wheeler, who leaves next month for a ten week training session in Virginia. City Manager David Hales says Wheeler's training was previously arranged before he took over late last year for departed chief Randy McKinley, who left for a job in Missouri. Finney served a stint as East Peoria's interim police chief last year, and previously was chief in Carbondale as well as a deputy in Quincy. Hales says he learned of Finney's availability through networking with the Springfield-based Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, which will assist the city in finding a permanent chief later this year.
