ISU, Heartland closed Mon due to winter storm

Schools closed today due to the heavy snow:

Illinois State University, except for essential personnel
Heartland Community College, all three campuses (Normal, Pontiac, Lincoln)
Lincoln College, Lincoln campus
U High and Metcalf
Eureka College closed until Noon
University of Illinois, Urbana
Mt. Pulaski
New Holland Middletown

Weather officials say a late winter storm is dumping up to 9 inches of snow in wide swaths of central Illinois and southern parts of the state.   Bloomington Normal has recieved about 9 inches, plus winds this morning are gusting up to 30 mph. Other snowfall totals as of 5 am...Pontiac 3", Springfield 14", Decatur 12", Peoria 6", Chicago area, 0-2". There are parking bans in effect in the twin cities and Bloomington has issued a traffic collision alert. Many rural roads are impassable as well as some in-town roads this morning. Weather officials are reminding the public to take precautions with travel in the wintry weather. A day earlier the storm heading from Kansas and Missouri downed power lines and affect traffic. Weather officials say parts of Colorado and northwest Kansas saw 10 to 15 inches of snow Saturday.
