The McLean County Coroner has released the name of a Bloomington man who was shot during a confrontation with police at his home early Wednesday morning. Coroner Beth Kimmerling says 53-year old Stephen Bethea of 8 Melrose Court died at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center after suffering from multiple gun shot wounds. Bloomington Police say officers responded to the Melrose address about 1:30 AM on a domestic violence call. Police say they were confronted by an armed individual who, according to the coroner's report, was intoxicated. Shots were fired and the suspect died about an hour later. The coroner's office says toxicology tests will be ordered. The Illinois State Police have taken over the investigation into the fatal shooting since Bloomington police officers were involved. The identity of the officer or officers who fired the fatal shots has not been released.
