A Canton woman who served as a bookkeeper at Bartonville Grade School has been accused of stealing nearly $8,000 from the school before quitting her job last summer. Penny J. Wells was arrested Saturday and later charged with felony theft. The 34-year-old Wells held the job at the Bartonville school for nearly two years before quitting. Authorities say a months-long examination of financial records revealed money has been taken over several months from concession sales and sporting event ticket sales. Volunteers typically collected the money and left it with the main office for Wells to deposit the day after an event.
