A strike of building- and food-service workers at the University of Illinois has entered a second day with no plans for a resumption of negotiations. Nearly 800 workers represented by the Service Employees Union International continued to picket today at locations around the Urbana-Champaign campus. Workers plan to go back to work Thursday. Union spokesman Adam Rosen says workers will hold a rally tomorrow. Rosen says there is no immediate plan to resume talks with the university. Negotiations over wages and other issues began last spring. A university spokeswoman did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The university has been using workers from other areas to cook and serve meals to students and handle janitorial duties.
