Caterpillar, Incorporated has dropped out of the Futurgen Alliance. Crains Chicago Business is reporting the Peoria-based equipment maker has followed Exelon and pulled out of the federally subsidized clean coal plant project after it was scaled back and moved from Mattoon to Meredosia. The company says when the scope and project changed, it no longer aligned with Caterpillar's core objectives. Caterpillar is also part of a group challenging the state's decision to increase electric bills for Illinois consumers to cover the $600 million state shre of the $1.6 billion cost.
