A McLean County Judge has sentenced convicted murderer Misook Nowlin to 55 years in prison for strangling her mother in law Linda Tyda. during the sentencing hearing, Nowlin's husband Don Wang testified he thought he was ok until the drive down from Chicago for the hearing.
Wang says the biggest victim is not him, it is his six and a half year old son who has lost both his grandmother and his mother. Wang says there is no escape from the distress.
When her son was mentioned in court, Misook Nowlin gasped loudly and began crying. Her friend Connie Chang with whom Nowlin attended the Korean Presbyterian Church says Nowlin feels the responsibility for the murder keenly.
Chang says Nowlin told her during a jail visit that she wants to die, but that Chang urges her to live. Prosecutors said that Nowlin killed her mother in law to get insurance money as her marriage was deteriorating. She later admitted hiding the body but claimed durinG the trial she was defending herself from the 70 year old Tyda.
