The union that represents about 800 building and food-service workers at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign says its members could strike soon if they don't get a new contract. Service Employees International Union Local 73 on Monday informed the university of its intent to strike. SEIU senior field organizer Ricky Baldwin called the notice a "last resort." The union also says it plans to continue negotiating. The union and the Urbana-Champaign campus have been negotiating since June 2012. They brought in a federal mediator late last year. Union and university officials are scheduled to meet in a negotiating session today.
