The McLean County Board is asking state lawmakers not to take away local power over oil and gas wells. Land Use Committee Chair George Gordon says the issue of hydraulic fracturing is central to some bills now under consideration in Springfield that would create statewide rules for shale oil and gas exploration.
Gordon says the board is also concerned such a measure for fracking could set a precedent when it comes to landfill siting or other potentially controversial local issues. Gordon says McLean County will send a copy of its resolution to other county boards and to the Chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee, Dave Koehler (KAY-luhr) of Peoria.
