Normal Council approves police contract

Last night's Town of Normal Council meeting saw the approval of new appointments and a new contract.The Town Council approved a new contract with the Normal Police Department. The two-year contract provides a 2.58 percent salary increase for Normal police officers each year, for the next two years. Town staff say the increase will cost taxpayers an additional $148,000 through the end of March 2014. The contract also includes sick leave incentives and other health-related benefits.

Jason Chambers was also approved to take a leadership position within the community. Chambers was appointed to the Children's Discovery Museum Foundation Board. He will finish the unexpired term of Garret Williams, who resigned from the board. The appointment comes after serving on the Normal Town Council and running a law firm. Councilman Sonja Reese welcomed Chambers, who was present at the council meeting Monday evening...

Chambers is currently the McLean County State's Attorney. Chambers term will expire June 30, 2014.
