A proposal in the state legislature could keep teenagers out of tanning beds. Representative Robyn Gabel, a Democrat from Evanston, introduced the plan. If it passes, clients would have to be 18, even if they have parental approval. A similar ban has passed in Chicago and Springfield. Lauren Zubeck is with Sundown Tan in the capital city. She says it's too early to say if business will be affected:
"Especially when the busy season comes, for like dances and proms, I really think we'll be able to tell if the law has affected us or not because that's usually when the girls and guys come, to get ready for stuff like that."
Sundown prepared for Springfield's ban by installing a spray-tan booth. Those would still be permitted under the proposed ban.
