2012 Peoria home sales up nearly 17% Home sales in the greater Peoria area showed solid gains last year. According to figures released by the Peoria Area Association of Realtors, sales shot up nearly 17% in 2012. The spike in sales comes at a time when inventory shrank by more than 22%. Association President John Purple says there were huge steps forward in the home market recovery last year.

"Our job market locally here has remained somewhat strong. I think the consumer confidence has been doing well and that's helped us to relieve some of this inventory."

Purple says he expects that recovery to continue this year. He says realtors are already reporting a solid start to the first quarter. The average price of a Peoria area home was $146,356, up 6.7% from 2011. The median price, which separates the top and bottom half of the price range, was $122,000, up 6.1% from the previous year.
