The Town of Normal is officially "cool," according to the Illinois Sierra Club, as it presents Normal with a 2012 Cool Cities award. The award comes in recognition of the town's reduction of its carbon footprint and commitment to sustainable energy. The Illinois Cool Cities Chair is Lonnie Morris.

Normal's roots in sustainability really go back quite a long way. The Sierra club says Norma's emphasis on electric vehicles , green buildings, and recycling are particularly worthy of note.
