Last night Town of Normal Council members authorized the spending of $27,200 taxpayer dollars for a study to test the feasibility of a grocery store in Uptown Normal. Taxpayer money was not the only "green" involved with the decision. Mayor Chris Koos says local co-op Green Top Grocery had approached the council asking for funds to conduct a similar study, but were turned down...
The study approved last night at a brief meeting is separate from the study being conducted by Green Top Grocery, wich the co-op is paying for.
Mayor Koos says critics say the town should not be involved with these kinds of studies...
The grocery feasibility study will be conducted by D&K Real Estate Services Corporation.
