The election for 5th Ward Alderman in the City of Bloomington is again a two person race. Circuit Judge Paul Lawrence has overturned an Elections Commission Board decision taking incumbent council member Jennifer McDade off the ballot. Mcdade is thrilled with the outcome.

"This is an absolute victory for voters in ward five who will have a choice to elect their Alderman in April"

The Judge decided ommissions and mistakes on McDade's petitions were harmless and not substantive. McDade's opponent Mathew Koetters says he will not appeal the ruling.

"I was planning on walking the neighborhoods and knocking on doors regardless of whether I was opposed or not. So things really don't change."

The Judge also ruled the Elections Commission Board violated the Open Meetings Act by taking the vote to exclude McDade in private. Elections Commission Director Paul Shannon says the board will abide by the law in the future.
