The Town of Normal and City of Bloomington have made this year's "I Have a Dream" awards to a Normal Community High School Student and to a long time community activist. NCHS Senior Akshay Nambiar ('ack-shay 'nam-be-air) is active in the McLean County India Association and during a recent family trip to New Delhi, he helped organize a clinic to treat Dengue fever near a slum. Quincy Cummings started the Minority and Police Partnership to create better communication between law enforcement agencies and minority groups. Cummings started the effort after a traffic stop in which he was racially profiled. The I Have A Dream honorees will be hosted by the Bloomington and Normal Human Relations Commissions at a luncheon January 19th.
