A McLean County Circuit judge has picked up two high profile murder cases as the previous judge moves to a new job on a state appeals court. Judge Scott Drazewski will now manage the Beason murders trials of Christopher and Jason Harris in Logan County. A previously scheduled motion to change the location of the trial for Christopher Harris remains set for January 14th. The Harrises are accused of killing Ruth and Rick Gee and three of their children. Christopher Harris has claimed that he and his brother walked in on the teenaged Gee child Dillen Constant engaged in murdering his family and killed Constant in self defense. Prosecutors say the Harrises had financial motives for the murders. The case has attracted widespread attention in central Illinois and defense lawyers say the Harrises cannot get a fair trial anywhere in the region. Other cases formerly overseen by Judge Thomas Harris will be taken over by Associate Judge Bill Yoder and the new acting presiding judge of Logan County will be Judge Tom Funk who will take all new cases that would have gone to Harris.
