The Salvation Army in Bloomington Normal is making a public appeal for donations toward the annual fundraising campaign. Steve Schroeder , the Development Director for the Salvation Army in the twin cities, says they have so far raised just under half of the $430,000 goal from the red kettle and mail in campaigns.
"We are about 40,000 behind. That's a little out of my comfort zone. But, I do believe when the Christmas spirit kicks in if we ever get a snow or something like that, we'll be doing just fine, I hope."
Schroeder says he has heard other agencies making annual appeals are also running behind the usual pace at this time of year. He says the money goes to support operations year round including a program to help people transition from being homeless to on their own, a food pantry, rent and utility assistance on a short term basis to prevent homelessness.
