Chicago alderman wants to learn from downstate counterparts A Chicago Alderman visiting central Illinois says there is a lot he can learn from his downstate counterparts. 47th Ward Alderman Ameya Pawar met with members of the Normal and Bloomington city councils at the invitation of central Illinois State Representative Jason Barickman. Pawar says he was happy to learn about Normal's experience with the electric aggregation issue, which was passed by voters this month after failing in the spring.

"It's a hot-button issue in Chicago as it was over here, and so I want to know what they went through, if there were any lessons learned or best practices because it's going to come up for a vote shortly in Chicago.

Pawar, a Democrat, and Barickman, a Republican, met last summer while both were enrolled in the U of I's Edgar Fellows program, designed to bring together future political, government and business leaders in the state. Pawar is spending a few days touring Barickman's district and the two will hold similar gatherings in Chicago in the near future.
