Citing the need for departmental confidentiality, the chief of Peoria's Police Department is going after whoever spoke to news media about a crash involving an unmarked squad. Meanwhile, the highest ranking officer involved in a possible cover-up will remain on the force. In an e-mail, Chief Steve Settingsgaard says, "We are not speaking of a 'whistle blower." The e-mail goes on to suggest disciplinary action against those who spoke to reporters. The crash, four months ago, was initially reported as a stolen vehicle situation, but now is believed to involve drunken driving.
