A small eastern Illinois town may soon decide whether to sell water to a planned coal mine. Some people in Homer are opposed to the idea, but some local farmers say they'd like to get in on the water-buying, too. The Homer Village Board has scheduled a Nov. 26 meeting to discuss potentially selling water to the proposed Sunrise Coal mine outside town. Homer is about 20 miles east of Champaign. The mine proposed by Terre Haute, Ind.-based Sunrise Coal has drawn some local opposition. But the board says a lawyer has signed off on the idea of selling 350,000 gallons of water a day to the mine. Some local farm operations now say they'd like to buy water, too.
