The Home Sweet Home Mission in Bloomington is asking for Thanksgiving donations. Spokeswoman Sabrina Burkiewicz says they need 800 turkeys.

"We continually have people coming to us saying we are struggling. We can't put food on our table. We need help. We are about to be evicted. And it just seems the more people tell us the economy is improving, the more people come knocking down our door that are in desperate situations."

Burkiewicz says they also need donations of potatoes, green beans, and all the traditional trimmings for the feast. She says they will give away 700 turkeys through the food pantry to the needy and use the remaining 100 birds to feed about 650 people at the mission and shut ins around Bloomington-Normal on Thanksgiving Day. The mission is also asking people to shop and drop their donations at CUB Foods from 11-1 this Saturday and at all twin cities Kroger stores on November 17th.
