Early voting in McLean County is higher than ever. McLean County Clerk Kathy Michael says there were about seven thousand early and absentee votes, a 17% increase from the previous presidential election cycle. Michael says it is unclear whether the jump comes from enthusiasm about this year's contest or growing acceptance of the relatively new practice of early voting. She says some people may just want to avoid Election Day lines at polling places. Michael says she expects turnout to approach the 70% mark in 2008 based on general office business ahead of Election Day.
