The Town of Normal is turning down a motion to require any restaurant or bar employee who handles alcohol to take a four hour course known as Basset training. Council Member Adam Neilsen says to impose mandatory Basset training, which can cost anywhere from $25 to $75 per employee, is an added expense on businesses that experience high turn-over rates.
"there have been first time violations, as you said, for new establishments who are trying to figure out how to run the business as it is, and this is just another complication for them"
Neilsen says he doesn't sense an epidemic in serving minors. Mayor Chris Koos says the Town is not discouraging Basset training as a whole, but will look to other ways to achieve the desired results.
