When restaurant patrons order a bottle of wine with dinner in Normal and don't finish the bottle, the rest of the wine currently goes to waste. That would change under a proposed ordinance town staff are recommending. It would allow Normal restaurant goers to take home the bottle sealed up in a plastic bag. State lawmakers created the so-called cork and carry statute six years ago, but till now Normal has not changed its liquor ordinances. The proposed change the council will decide Monday evening is limited to one bottle per patron. Town staff say allowing cork and carry could reduce the amount of drunken driving because people wouldn't be tempted to drink the whole bottle.
