A budget approved in special session by the Peoria City Council will allow for the hiring of 5 new police officers. The budget, passed by an 8-to-4 vote, does not reduce the property tax rate by 2-cents. A council member had asked the city manager to prepare a budget with the cut. The budget projects spending at nearly $189-Million, and revenue at $191-Million. Along with the five new police officers, the budget contains money for three additional Peoria city employees.
