Metro joblessness down across IL

The unemployment rates in Bloomington-Normal and Peoria each tumbled more than half a point last month compared to a year ago. The September jobless rate in Peoria was 7.5%, down from 8.7% in September 2011. Bloomington-Normal's rate declined from 7.4% a year ago to 6.7% last month. The Twin Cities rate in September was just slightly higher than the 6.5% figure in the Davenport-Moline-Rock Island area. According to the State Department of Employment Security, every metro area in the state posted lower jobless rates last month compared to September of 2011. Peoria has gained 1,300 non-farm jobs over the past year. Bloomington-Normal has gained 300 in that time.
