Wet weather has grounded the pumpkins scheduled to fly at the annual Punkin' Chuckin' Contest in central Illinois this weekend. The Morton Tourism Association hosts the event. Spokeswoman Susan Pyles says the farm field in Pekin used for the competition is full of water and won't be dry by tomorrow. That prevents the Illinois State University team from defending its title in the trebuchet division. About 20 pumpkin-throwing teams were expected to compete in Pekin. Pyles says organizers of another event have invited those teams to throw pumpkins Saturday in a large gravel area in Girard, about 30 miles south of Springfield.
