McLean County Judge Elizabeth Robb has ordered DNA testing on five knives found at the scene of a 1991 bar fight and slaying. The tests were requested by lawyers for Donald Whalen, who is serving a 60-year prison sentence in the death of his father, William Whalen. The elder Whalen was beaten to death at the former Twenty Grand Tap, a bar he owned in Bloomington. Testing is expected to take up to 90 days. Defense attorney Jeff Abbott says he's cautiously optimistic fingerprints sent to the state police crime lab for testing will point to another potential suspect and a request for a new trial.
