Home Sales in Bloomington-Normal are running 21% better this year compared to 2011. According to figures from the realtors' association, there have been 1,858 sales through September this year. Last year, there were 1,539 sales the first nine months. Association of Realtors President Steve Rader says the robust sales continued last month despite a drop in one key category.
"The average price is down a little bit but I can attribute that to new construction because they've been building less expensive homes which brings the average price down."
The average price last month was just $166,067 down from $171,150 in September last year. There were 194 total closings last month compared to 190 in September of 2011. Rader says it will be tough for this coming winter to exceed or even equal last winter's sales totals because the mild weather boosted activity during a time when sales are typically down.
