A group of quiet leaders will be honored Thursday evening in Bloomington-Normal. Cheryl Gaines says the 19 nominated are truly Extraordinary Ordinary Men who build the community without a lot of hooplah.

"Some people have worked in the running community and have helped train and set up events. There are people who have worked on Sister Cities programs, in gardens; they've worked on jail reform and volunteering at Home Sweet Home Mission."

Others have worked with the Multi-cultural leadership program, within their churches. Gaines says with so many broken families in the culture, it's important to reflect on positive examples of men making differences in ordinary lives. The event is also a fundraiser for Collaborative Solutions, a not for profit counseling service. Six of the 19 will be named extraordinary ordinary men during the celebration at the Marriot in Uptown Normal. The nominees are: Dan Anderson, Dale Avery, Phani Aytam, William Bennett, Alan Burton, Orlyn Edge, Jeff Fritzen, Bob Hathway, Rick Heiser, Tony Jones, Dave Kieser, Mike Matejka, Steve Mintus, Greg Patton, Tony Perry, Bob Sutherland, Karl Szabo, Bill Waller, and Mike Wells.
